Zovirax Duo is a prescription medicine used to treat cold sores in adults and children. It is prescribed for the treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis), genital herpes infection, and herpes simplex infections. Zovirax Duo is used to treat the symptoms of herpes simplex infections such as blisters, pain when swallowing, and outbreaks of genital herpes. Zovirax Duo may be used for other purposes as required only. Zovirax Duo is not recommended for use in pregnantesesic and malacotienic patients. Zovirax Duo should not be taken by children as it can cause severe gastrointestinal side effects. Zovirax Duo is not recommended for use in children under 8 years of age. Zovirax Duo is not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age. Zovirax Duo should not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to acyclovir or any other components of the medication. Zovirax Duo may cause dizziness or sedation. Patients with a history of seizures and/or severe dizziness may receive Zovirax Duo. Do not use Zovirax Duo if the patient is taking chlorpromazine, amitriptyline, amoxapine, amoxapine, amoxapine, amiloride, aminoglycoside, or aminofetam.
Zovirax Duo is not indicated for the treatment of herpes labialis (HSV-2), genital herpes (HPV), or chickenpox. Zovirax Duo is not indicated for the treatment of cold sores (herpes zoster), genital herpes (rubefovir), or varicella zoster (shingles). Zovirax Duo is indicated for the treatment of HSV-2 in adults and children (1 year of age and older). It may also be used for the treatment of varicella in children (under 8 years of age). In clinical trials, Zovirax Duo resulted in fewer herpes labialis outbreaks and less blisters. In addition, in clinical studies in children and adolescents with HSV-2, Zovirax Duo resulted in fewer herpes labialis episodes and less blisters. The frequency of recurrences of herpes labialis has been studied in children and adolescents with and without HSV-2. A single oral dose of Zovirax Duo was administered to 906 patients with HSV-2, in addition to suppressive therapy. Of the total 3,935 patients, 295 (0.2%) recurred herpes labialis episodes. Of the total 3,935 recurrences, 265 (0.2%) occurred in patients with HSV-2 and 244 (0.2%) occurred in patients without HSV-2. Of the total recurrences, 209 (0.2%) occurred in patients with HSV-2 and 213 (0.3%) occurred in patients without HSV-2. Of the total recurrences, 206 (0.2%) occurred in patients with HSV-2 and 239 (0.4%) occurred in patients without HSV-2.
